A crown and cap that keep the weather out.
Poured chimney crowns, stainless caps, chase covers and masonry caps that protect the stack from water, animals and sparks.
- Typical timeline: Half a day to 2 days
- Crown: Reinforced, sloped, overhanging
- Cap: Stainless steel with screen

What it is, and why it matters.
The crown is the concrete lid on top of the chimney. When it cracks, water pours into the masonry and the flue. A proper crown slopes away from the flue, overhangs the brick and has a drip edge so water never touches the stack.
In Nashville and the surrounding towns we repair and replace crowns, add stainless steel caps with screens, and rebuild chase covers. Caps keep out rain, birds, squirrels and wind-blown embers.

Chimney Crowns & Caps: common questions
Can a cracked crown be repaired?
Small hairline cracks can be sealed. A crown with wide cracks or crumbling edges should be replaced because water will keep getting in.
Do I need a chimney cap?
Yes, almost always. A cap keeps out rain, animals and debris and helps protect the flue and the masonry below.
