Retaining walls that really retain.
Stone, block and brick retaining walls with proper footings, drainage and reinforcement, designed to hold the soil behind them for decades.
- Typical timeline: 1 to 4 weeks
- Materials: Natural stone, block, brick
- Drainage: Stone backfill and pipe

What it is, and why it matters.
Soil is heavy and water makes it heavier. A retaining wall fails when drainage is missing, the footing is shallow or the wall is too steep for its design. We build on compacted base, add drainage stone and pipe behind the wall, use geogrid or steel where it is needed and tier taller walls so each level carries its share.
Throughout Nashville's hills and surrounding counties we build natural stone, block and brick retaining walls for slopes, terraces, driveways and patios, and we engineer taller walls and coordinate with permit offices when required.
Four things done right.
Drainage first
Gravel and pipe behind every wall.
Footing below frost
Stable base keeps walls straight.
Engineered when needed
Taller walls designed and permitted.
Beautiful too
Stone and block faces that suit the landscape.

Retaining Walls: common questions
How tall can a retaining wall be without engineering?
Many places consider walls over about four feet, or walls carrying a driveway, building or slope, to need engineering or a permit. We check your local rules.
Why do retaining walls fail?
Most failures come from poor drainage and weak bases. Water builds up behind the wall and pushes it over. Proper stone, pipe and a deep footing prevent this.
